Computer Programming 101

The first thing we will need is a code editor. A code editor is a plain text editor as apposed to a rtf(rich text format) editor or a document processor such as MS Word that markup the text. We will be marking-up by hand.

A code editor includes two great features which are syntax highlighting and auto indentation. Computer code is made more human readable. It is easier to spot formatting errors. Syntax highlighting and auto-indentation are indespensible.

There are many code editors. The most popular for a long standing period is VI. VI comes pre-installed on Mac and Android. It is available on all Linux and Unix systems. It is available as a Portable App on Windows. Portable Apps can be installed on a USB stick and launched on different versions of Windows. There are many other code editors. The choice is yours.
